Electrolysis in Ottawa
Electrolysis is the only method of permanent hair removal. It is a precision treatment which must be performed by a skilled technician in order to effectively treat one single hair at a time. The procedure consists of a fine probe (finer than the actual hair) being inserted alongside the hair follicle. A current is released directly into the hair root causing destruction of the hair follicle. For electrolysis to be effective, hairs must be in the anagen phase (or growth) phase. This is the same as laser hair removal.
How is Electrolysis Different From Laser Hair Removal?
Unlike in laser hair removal, the color of the skin, color of the hair, or coarseness of the hair is irrelevant in electrolysis. Electrolysis is often used on smaller areas or areas which are as not suitable for laser hair removal. A benefit of electrolysis is the ability to have more frequent appointments. Unlike laser hair removal, which requires a minimum wait time of 4 weeks between appointment, electrolysis can be performed as needed.
How Many Electrolysis Treatments Will I Need?
Unfortunately, there is no specific number of sessions. Electrolysis is very much dependent on the amount of hair involved and the client’s tolerance. We often suggest giving yourself a 6 to 12 month window to complete a specific area. With each electrolysis session you can expect hairs to begin to grow slower, finer and then eventually less and less.
Is Electrolysis Painful?
Pain tolerance varies from person to person. The insertion of the probe should be painless, however a small prick of the heat current will be felt with each hair. The intensity of the current will depend on the coarseness or resilience of the hair. Numbing agents may be used to increase tolerance and comfort during the treatment.
How Long Will My Electrolysis Session Take?
The length of each electrolysis session is dependent on the amount of hair involved and the tolerance of the patient. During your consultation the technician will make recommendations for session length and frequency, based on your individual needs.
