What is Microdermabrasion?
Microdermabrasion is a mechanical exfoliation procedure that uses crystals or diamond flakes to remove the outermost layer of the epidermis. It is a non-invasive procedure used to rejuvenate the skin. As we age, our skin cells turn over at a reduced rate, resulting in a buildup of dead skin. By removing the surface dead skin we are revealing a more vibrant, youthful appearance.
What Conditions Can Be Treated by Microdermabrasion?
Microdermabrasion is used to treat a number of superficial facial issues including acne, minor wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, age spots, UV damage, and light scarring (including acne scarring).
By exfoliating the top layer of dead skin, not only are we revealing younger, healthier skin, we are also speeding up the skin’s natural renewal process and promoting continued shedding. Microdermabrasion damages the outermost dead layer of skin, which causes younger skin cells at the bottom layer of the dermis to develop at a higher rate. With microdermabrasion, scarring, wrinkles, and unevenness are reduced, as is the appearance of pores, blackheads, milia, and redness.
How Long Does It Take?
The treatment takes roughly 45 minutes, with minimal to no recovery time. Since human skin typically regenerates at approximately 30 day intervals, exfoliation is a key factor in repairing damaged skin and maintaining your youthful glow.
